'A Penny For Your Thoughts' -
Even though the weather was predicted as very cold and foggy I decided a weekend walk in the Surrey Hills was just what I needed. When leaving the main road and heading into tight country lanes you get a sense of freedom and exploration. I headed down to the Hurtwood woodlands area where there are several car parks (free of charge) each on the 4 mile trail around the Hurtwoods walk, the main one for me was the Pitch Hill Start, from here you have a fairly easy 10 minute incline to reach the viewpoint of Pitch Hill.
This photo came with several problems mainly due to the haze, it was bright, the sun looked massive and engulfed the sky with light. It was hard to focus let alone see anything in the distance. It was only in post that I could reduce the highlights and really see the definition in the sun and landscape.

A Single Tree on Pitch Hill

Taken at f.16 I was trying to get a nice sharp spark to the sun but silly of me to consider that with the fog and haze in the air. The tree looked quite prominent with the path leading around, the atmosphere really makes this shot pop, again I love the depth and the feel of the shot but... It could have been so much better! |

A Sculpture designed by Giles Miller sits inquisitively in Surrey Hills, it has a seating area inside that looks out over the South Downs, while each shingle is engraved with words and messages from local people and visitors. Located a short walk from Car Park 5 in the Hurtwood area. |
